Tamatar Chaat — a Chaat recipe .
Tangy, spiced tomatoes simmered with cumin and hing, finished with lemon and sev — a light, vitamin C-rich relish-style chaat.
Step 1: Preparing Jain Tamatar Chaat
1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and asafoetida (hing).
2. Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
3. Add turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, chaat masala, black salt, amchur powder, and salt.
4. Stir well and let it cook for 3-4 minutes until everything blends into a thick gravy.
5. Add boiled and mashed raw bananas (or yam) and boiled chickpeas/sprouted moong. Mix well and let it cook for another 2 minutes.
Step 2: Assembling the Chaat
1. Serve the hot tamatar chaat in a bowl or plate.
2. Drizzle Jain tamarind chutney and green chutney over it.
3. Sprinkle fine sev, chopped coriander, and pomegranate seeds.
4. Optionally, top with crushed papdi or mathri for extra crunch.
5. Serve immediately while it's hot and tangy!
